Breaking down the basics: a chat with ZapLabs’ John Snapp
For John Snapp, video producer and content manager at ZapLabs, keeping content simple, powerful, and effective is always a goal.
How long have you been with the company?
“Almost eight years—my last position was as a supervisor on the Support team.
"Tell us a little about what you do here.
“I create tutorial videos and marketing videos for the Zap platform.” Even before John was in his current role on the Zap Engagement team, he was already on the lookout for ways to make Zap easier to learn and enjoyable.
“My last position was as a supervisor on the Support team,” John told us. “I noticed a need for video tutorials, and now, that’s what I do full time.” Marissa researches and plans for tutorials for all of Zap’s features, Bria and Christine take care of the words, and John brings it all together with great visuals and editing.
Why do you like what you do?
“I like the freedom I have to create clean and concise videos that I hope agents enjoy,” John said. When we asked why he like ZapLabs as a company, it’s the people that really made the difference. “I appreciate the collaboration with my team members. I really enjoy working with the people here.”
What would your dream home look like?
John took a second to visualize this one. “Hmm. I’d say a California ranch style home in the Oakland Hills, with a great view of the bay.” Growing up, John’s mother was a real estate agent, so he’s developed an appreciation for the little things that make a house feel like home.
What role does technology play in your life?
“Advancements in tech are very fast paced when it comes to digital media,” John said. “I’m constantly having to keep up with new software and new cameras.” We took a few moments to discuss the details of the iPhone 7’s advanced new camera technology, and the merits of Canon vs. Nikon. “I really enjoy doing the research,” John shared. And it shows—he’s always keeping up with the tools of the trade.
What do like to you do for fun?
“I like to travel, and to hang out with my friends,” John says. In fact, one of his friends from grade school, Chad, is a Quality Assurance Specialist here at ZapLabs—so he always has someone nearby to grab lunch. “I like to watch movies, and to play music,” John shared—he’s a bass player, too. He brings his love of film and music together by creating videos for musicians.
Do you have a favorite quote?
It’s a Bergen Evans quote: “We may be through with the past, but the past is not through with us.”
What inspires you about Zap? What are your hopes for the product in the future?
“I really like the idea of creating something that makes people’s lives easier. And I like how clean and streamlined the product is for our users,” John shared.
From working with our support team to creating videos that help sum up complicated features in a simple way, John’s always been about making things simple and easy. In the future, John hopes more people will use Zap—and that it’ll get even more intuitive.
